ABOUT

GRZECH PIOTROWSKI – Composer, saxophonist, music producer, and arranger. Grzech Piotrowski is an artist who moves fluidly between genres — blending film music, classical, jazz, ethno, roots, and open improvisation into a unique and evocative sound. He is a graduate of the prestigious Department of Jazz and Popular Music at the Academy of Music in Katowice, where he studied saxophone.

His musical projects are known for their expansive soundscapes, emotional depth, and a sense of magic — shaped by the harmonious collaboration of extraordinary musical personalities and temperaments.

In 2009, he founded the World Orchestra — a visionary project uniting exceptional soloists from the worlds of jazz, classical, ethnic music, and free improvisation. The ensemble features musicians from Europe, Asia, Africa, and both Americas. The World Orchestra transcends borders and conventions. It is a musical journey rich in subtle emotions and atmospheric space. Critics and audiences alike describe its music as “the language of the soul” — a universal expression that resonates across age, faith, culture, and geography. It is a return to the very roots of music: ancient improvisations passed down through generations, long before musical notation existed. By fusing the foundations of world music with elements of symphonic orchestration, jazz, folk traditions, and cinematic storytelling, the World Orchestra reminds us that — even in an era of rapid technological progress — music remains the world’s only true universal language.

Grzech Piotrowski has been actively involved in organizing and developing numerous music festivals over the years. Since 2016, he has served as the Artistic Director of one of the oldest international traditional jazz festivals in Europe — the Old Jazz Meeting “Złota Tarka” in Iława. He is also the founder of Wschód Piękna – the World Orchestra Festival in Warmia, which has been running for over a decade, as well as Rawa Jazz Fest in Rawa Mazowiecka. More information here.

Grzech Piotrowski has received numerous accolades throughout his career. He was nominated three times for Poland’s prestigious Fryderyk Awards (2012, 2013), and in 2012 for the Mateusz Award by Polish Radio. He is also the recipient of the Grand Prix at the Hoeilaart Jazz Festival in Belgium (1998), the Grand Prix at the Dwa Teatry Festival in Sopot for his music in the play “Saksofon Basowy” by Josef Skvorecky, and first prizes at major Polish jazz festivals including Jazz Nad Odrą, Pomorska Jesień Jazzowa, and Jazz Juniors.
